If a crack is found, specialist treatment will be required to effect a satisfactory repair. Clean off the jointing faces, using a rag soaked in methylated spirit to remove old gasket cement. Do not use a scraper because the jointing surfaces are damaged very easily. A leak-tight crankcase is an essential requirement of any two-stroke engine.
Check also the bearing housings, to make sure they are not damage. The entry to the housings should be free from burrs or lips.

Created to match the BSAs of the time i. Triumph tried to tap from both these models and created something in between. The cub or T20 was an extended model from the earlier Triumph Terrier. There is also an off road version of the cub designated the T20C. The cub was a popular learner motorcycles as any 16 year old can put both their feet on the ground while on the bike. The bike was really low so much so it made its bigger brother the T21 feel much much bigger.
Triumph’s Tiger Cub was designed unashamedly to appeal to admirers of the company’s sporting twins With the hand of master stylist Edward Turner in evidence, they were an attractive alternative to a string of lightweights powered by Villiers two-strokes. The ‘Baby Bonnies’ provided a desirable apprenticeship on two wheels for a generation of youths, and a ride-to-work bike with style. After , when learners were restricted to bikes of less than cc, the Cub’s appeal was enormously enhanced.
Although by the s Triumph was very much associated with twins, thanks to its trend-setting Speed Twin and later derivatives, pre-war much of its production had centred on sports singles. The first post-war single was the much more mundane Terrier – a cc machine very much aimed at the commuter market, which Triumph had tended to forsake in recent years.

This book charts the huge success of the little bike from Birmingham that started its life in pre-war Germany and went on to conquer the world.

The Melodeons are Coming. I hope that they cover a range of emotions and styles and will be both amusing and thought provoking. One of the reasons I do a lot of comedy material is that if I try to sing seriously it can end up sounding like a camel farting through a wet loaf of bread. The instrument can be really ace in the right hands, but invariably melodeons turn up at folk festivals in panzer divisions. Banjo players really like the song for some reason!
After dating and identifying many thousands of BSA’s we have found that often a bike was built or shipped outside the dates given by the lettering system so this should only be used as a rough guide to the year and month of your machine.
Classic post-war BSA motorbikes, one with two lads sat upon it prior to riding around a field. BSA Bantam D1 plunger. As a nipper I regularly charged around the garden and nearby field on an ancient 50cc Raleigh Runabout. Whereas I made do with a multi-coloured moped, these lads were lucky enough to have access to a BSA Bantam plunger two-stroke motorcycle to chase rabbits with. The registration, VMP , confirms that the mist green motorcycle was registered in the London area in Buyers in could opt for a “rigid” Bantam ie fitted with no rear spring , or the sprung “plunger” version.
No doubt in these nanny-ing times, many would frown on letting youths of this age near a motorised machine, but so long as they’re sensible and adequately supervised, it would have been a great deal of fun and something to look back on with fond memories I’m sure. 1965 Bsa Gpo Bantam – Cheshire East England
By the machine was available in three guises, the B24 Empire Star, the B26 Sports and the B25 Competition, as here, which differed from the other models being primarily designed for trials with competition tyres and mudguards, a high level exhaust pipe and a larger front wheel for added ground clearance. These models began the sporting tradition that later led to the Goldstar range which was implemented for the cc in the season, although in cc form the Empire Star range continued until Copies of factory records show it returning to the factory in June and February for modifications and repair.
This proved to be a particularly tough event, with only 82 of the entries making it to the finish — Sivell rider , becoming one of the retirements on day two. However, he was more successful at Pendine, winning the cc standard class on this machine.

Send this to a friend The BSA Dandy was a ‘no frills’ utility machine that offered basic transport for the masses. BSA’s entry into this highly competitive scooter market was over engineered to say the least with the single-cylinder, two-stroke engine forming the righthand side of the swinging arm, pivoting on the frame; no bad thing in itself, but the contact breaker points were inaccessible until the engine had been removed and the two-speed, pre-selector gearbox was an unnecessary expense on such a basic machine.
Acquired in by the present vendor, this delightful little BSA Dandy 70 was found in , in a property that had been left vacant for some 12 years and remarkably had just less than two miles on the clock. The 70cc scooter has since been completely restored and is accompanied by photographic evidence of the restoration with the odometer now reading just over two miles. The current vendor has also sought out an original dating certificate from the BSA Bantam Riders Registration for peace of mind so this is a rare opportunity to own a real piece of BSA’s history with fewer miles recorded than many of us would cover to walk to the local shops!

The company name is a portmanteau derived from the first two letters of each of the three founders’ surnames, Bi-anchi Mo-rri Ta-mburini. Created from the era when the Japanese manufacturers built powerful engines, but abysmal frames, Bimota rose to fame by designing and building models that were capable of harnessing the mighty Jap engines power, and went about demoralising Japanese factory teams on race tracks around the world. During the late s, Bimota also helped develop and build motorcycles branded as Lamborghinis, and in the s they also customised Yamaha and Ducati motorcycles.
BSA Bantam for restoration This is a D7 frame with a D10 engine (cc, 3 speed) fitted with a high level exhaust, so it is not a Bushman, more of an interesting looking Bitsa! It is a non runner, but will turn over, and has been in the back of the garage for 20 yrs.

In , BSA announced many changes to its product line of singles, twins and the new three-cylinder machine named the “Rocket three” for the model year. It now concentrated on the more promising USA, and to a lesser extent, Canadian, markets. However, despite the adding of modern accessories, for example, turn signals and even differing versions of the A65 twins for home and export sale, the damage had been done and the end was near.
