And, if we are to believe Mr Lewis and his opposite number at Booker, Charles Wilson, then the deal will mean bigger and better opportunities for consumers. But that argument is increasingly falling on deaf ears. The wholesaler could end up being owned entirely by the cigarette makers, or Tesco could have to step in – which would put its Booker deal in jeopardy. In this market, that business model now seems untenable.
Nisa is also up for sale Nisa, the member owned wholesaler and convenience chain, is also hunting for a buyer.

Claire Machin, who lives next door to Tesco in Northend Road, described the incident on Tuesday afternoon at 4pm as “the worst thing I have ever experienced in my life” as she feared for the safety of her seven-year-old son. While Claire stood at the checkout with her two-year-old daughter in the pram and talked to her friend, her son was standing by the door of Tesco when she claims about 13 armed police officers ran inside. Amid reports a man carrying a shotgun was on the loose, Ms Machin said she did not see the suspect holding a weapon when he was arrested, but said she saw officers pin a teenager in a red T-shirt up against the wall.
Despite the chaos of the incident, which “seemed to last for hours”, Ms Machin said her only concern was for her son, who tried to hide during the ambush. I just wanted to get my little boy home,” she added. However, Ms Machin did praise the Met Police for offering support after the incident, suggesting an officer could visit her son to explain he was not in any danger. Tesco Express in Erith has confirmed the store was shut due to a police incident on Tuesday afternoon.

Singles‘ Night at Tesco We’re discussing dating in the canteen. Eve, our luscious receptionist, reckons we should all get down to Tesco one Friday after work. Apparently it’s singles‘ night. People are dismissive – no one’s heard of it. Need to do a big shop anyway; got no plans Friday. Head down about 8pm, a splash of Calvin Klein still soaking into my face, neck and crotch. It’s all a bit quiet. Probably doesn’t liven up ’til the pubs chuck out. An old couple with an empty trolley undertake me at the onions.
What are they doing here? I grunt but the geriatrics are in a world of their own. Potatoes – check; carrots – check; eggs – check. Remember why you’re here, la.

According to Wales Online , product recalls have been released relating to items sold at Tesco, Aldi, Lidl and Sainsbury’s because of safety fears.
In all cases, customers who may have bought any of these products are being urged not to use them, or to return them to the store they purchased them from. The Food Standards Agency is responsible for issuing warnings about products and items that have been found to have safety issues, or which have labelling that wrongly informs customers about ingredients.
On my trip I was joined by some of our IT leadership team, who — like me — were keen to visit this huge and thriving area. The aim of the trip was to engage with some of the vast amounts of innovation going on and to figure out how we can best tap into it, in the future. One company organises rewards for customers based on their achievements.
This has led to really high rates of engagement and people love the surprise. The other concept I want to mention, is a way of measuring the world around us. We saw a couple of companies that could use existing technology to accurately measure an aspect of your life like your home, or your body to help you make better choices when buying items online.
These 3D models are interactive and allow you to remove, move and insert items so that you can build up a new outfit or room layout. I was lucky enough to meet with some really big players as well as those who are part of fast growing and exciting start-ups. The start-up industry is an interesting mix of venture capitalists, incubators, start-ups themselves and larger companies who still thrive there.
My trip reaffirmed to me the importance of having an open, creative and innovative working culture. As we look ahead to the changing retail landscape we know that innovation will be key to ensuring that we are successful and continue to deliver an outstanding customer experience.
